Through Him All Things Were Made

Our Verse of the Day for the first day fits in perfectly with our first planned stop: the Creation Museum in Kentucky.

Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.
John 1:3 NIV

We made it to Petersburg right at lunchtime, so of course our first stop (after the bathrooms, naturally) was the cafe. The girls each devoured an 8″ pizza (traveling makes them hungry!), while Keith choose BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich and I tried the Turkey Bacon Ranch Wrap. Both of ours came with waffle fries that we’re not Chick-fil-A, but still mighty tasty!

Even though there was a sticky humid heat, we chose to eat outside where it was less crowded (probably due to said humidity) and where we directly overlooked the museum’s beautiful lake and botanical gardens – and were regularly “zipped” over by those starting the zip line tour (a large percentage of which were Mennonite, which was surprising to me in a way I can’t quite put my finger on…)

Next up was the main exhibit hall. Despite the museum’s name, Creation was only one portion of the exhibit, which also provided a Biblical overview of the history of man, through the fall and to restoration in Christ.

Kaitlyn, predictably, got most excited when she saw a bear.

After we finished the main exhibits, Key was champing at the bit to get to the petting zoo. They had some alpacas, a couple of zorses (crossbreed zebra & horse), wallabys… but Kourey was all about the goats. You could go right into the pen, and there was a bucket of brushes to give some TLC to the cute compact capras. Kourey’s favorite was a black and white fellow named Tumnus (the other two were Peter and Edmund).

We worked our way back to the museum proper on winding trails through lovely gardens and kid-approved thrills of suspension and floating bridges.

Here are a few more pictures:

She said she could outrun him.

I like to live dangerously.
